Garcrogo Woods: A New Horse Friendly Gate

Garcapro wood 001

I know! Where is the damn wood!  Sorry, it got cut down, some time ago, but there is new growth in there somewhere!

Anyway we were here to examine the new gate.

This is the Gate!!!   Horses step over, Motorbikes? No way! Cars? No way!  They are brilliant, and are becoming popular!

You dont have to dismount, but BC, was having a foot stamping day!

This gate is at the start of the woods, we are trying to get more, and as the Local Councils are obliged under Law, to install these access gates whenever a need is established, providing there is a Right of Way.

BC decided he was lame! Feet checked, and a touch of sympathy, he was fine.

No sympathy from the Gracie! Turns out she was coming into season! Of course she insisted that BC, should pay her some attention, he being a boy! My ride was hell! When she is in season, she becomes stubborn, twitchy, and rather sharp!

Finally, BC with Lynne.

  2. That gate is a good idea- as long as it doesn't get trashed by the motor bike crowd.
    Love that fuzzy grey mane!

  3. Fab gates. We had them where I used to live. Mostly had stiles though.

  4. The gate is Galvanised box steel. It has a locked side, while at the other, the hinges are the wrong way round, with steel blocks on. The whole gate is fitted onto steel pillars, and set in Concrete. I have seen a few, and even after some idiots with 4x4`s tried to pull them out, they couldnt!

    They are the best gates!

  6. Thanks for the education, Cheyenne. I'd never have guessed the purpose of those gates.

  7. Your comment is interesting about sand (and, of course, I didn't take it the wrong way). I can see your point as sand can compact down. Our arena is a mixture of sand and rubber and it is dragged weekly (or more) so it stays nice and fluffy. Our ground is hard pack dirt. There is a lot of clay in our soil so it is like cement - ouch!

  12. Yes, you may use the gate pic! No worries. The gate is 14 foot side to side, the middle section is: Bottom bit, 14 inches off the ground, wooden kick boards, the gap for the horse is 4 foot at the bottom, and I think 5 at the top. The whole idea is to stop M/Cycles and cars. The hinges are welded, and capped, with the loch covered with a metal box, the key to which is held by the land owner and the Land management group.

Horses easy get over it, .use what you want my friend!!
