A Glitch!

004
I thought I`d try and be upbeat tonight!  Mainly `cos the rain is once again back with us, and my  ride on Sunny, did not go as planned! No, it was more of a,  well a dance really.  The clouds were really black, and there was a few spots of rain when we had finished tacking up. But not to be put off, I climbed aboard, and began the lesson by flexing left and right, plus some vertical. Then we ……got wet!  It hammered down, fortunately I had my heavy coat with me, and without thinking, began to reach behind the cantle for it.
Of course Gracie is so used to this,  but tonight I wasnt on Gracie!! But non the less, I hoisted the coat onto my knees and began to slip my right arm into the sleeve, it might have been the rustle of the fabric, or the shape of this thing on Sunny`s back, growing bigger as the coat went on, or maybe just plain stupidity on my part? Who knows, but the whole thing went pear shaped.   It happened like this!
Coat goes on, horses ears stand upright, horse quivers  for a second, horse shuffles feet, then horse rushes forward! Not far, but straight into the empty barn. Horse stops, cow bellows, horse cat jumps big style! Ignores my attempts to gain control, then shoots across the yard and stops, not for long!! It was a game of two halves really, I won one, she won one, finally after much scariness, and  quiet attempts settle her down, she does just that.
So there we stood, in the yard, wet, splattered with mud, her snorting, and me sweating! Or was I just wet through?  Any how, I didnt give in, we managed some rather nice wet circles, a few rein backs, some nice gentle stops, and finished back in the cow shed! Just so she could see what all the noise came from!  As we dont normally have cattle here,  I should explain that the beast was stopping the night only. The end result was a nil nil draw! We gained our self respect, Sunny met a cow, and we both got wet again!  What can one say? These things happen, and as someone once said, “ its not the  end result, its the journey there!”
The coat episode was done again before I got off, but inside the barn, she never flinched that time at all! (success?)

  1. Oh you!! I was reading along hoping you wouldn't get your head or knee knocked off!
Whewee. I do believe that ended far better than it started.
DRAT...sorry for the continued wet too.

We have been getting threats for two weeks. ONE Emergency Broadcast Systems interruption about a pending hail/thunder/lightening storm. It has made for dramatic skies and unwanted humidity...and no water weight for me..I've sweat it all off!

Sunny, you got a crash course, and so did your man!(without the crash-yip-yip!)

    1. Lol!!!! True, but hey? Perhaps a small piece of artistic license there! Sunny really is a cool horse, potentially better than Gracie, and I adore her to bits! I think the whole episode lasted only a few minutes. The rain keeps comin!

  2. Send some of that rain our way. I would have been on the ground as soon as I reached for the coat.

  7. All part of the learning curve! We have had mud slides up the lake from here- one was deadly. Rain has gone, to be replaced by high humidity. I don't like to ride when it's hot and humid, it's hard on the horse, and me too.
