Pony Care Day!!

IMAG0002_COVER
The sleet and snow this morning was enough to put any hardened rider off! Let alone a couple of tykes like these to.  So today we did Pony care!   The usual stuff, hoof cleaning, grooming, teeth, checking for wounds cuts etc!    The kids enjoyed it, but I think the ponies found it a bit, shall we say, irritating! God love them, they stood and got prodded poked and generally well handled. Still it needs to be done, an hour of that, and I kinda thought that it was enough!  As you can see, they are still smiling! ............The kids, that is!

    1. Very true!...........But it gives confidence to both parties, and lets be honest, kids need to get that confidence around them.

    1. Hi Mary Ann!.....Those halters are flat webbing halters, we use them as an all round type over here, but! They dont have the effect of "pressure" as do rope halters, but they are good for leading etc.

  6. Teaching them good habits Cheyenne. That was always my favourite bit as a child at the local riding school - being allowed to get involved with the real horse care.

    1. I think so Denise, I try. It bodes well for the future, if they learn what needs to be done, after all, horses need care and some very good attention, before you can ride them and after. But there is a lot of people who dont.

  7. That's the way to do it...the younger the better.....teaches them great habits, you also get to find out if they are really into their ponies for the long haul. They are lucky to have you as an influence and I'm thinking you are lucky to have them....betcha they keep you smiling.

    1. They do!.......And it can be a bit slow at times too. One minute they`re as happy as pigs in ****! Then they want to stop and chatter between themselves??
