Today was cold, very cold! At sea level, around 0 degrees! Up on the hill, around –3 deg. Wind chill maybe a bit lower, who knows. But my toes knew about it!
Fresh snow overnight, most blown away by a strong East wind, left the surface solid and icy. But! The intrepid foursome set off, and enjoyed two hours of frozen backside! In the foreground is our latest and new recruit, Emily on her pony Polo! Sheena in yellow and her daughter Katy wrapped up in a checked fleece. Katy`s horse is relatively new to this game, but did well as did Emily.(only 10 years old)
You can see from this shot how leaden and dark the sky was, there was no one else out riding……..wonder why?
As you can see, those grey ears are a dead giveaway! Onwards ever onwards!
No, I havent fallen off, more a saddle adjustment. Thats Patrick, nosing onto Gracie, boy that wind was cold. In the forest not too bad, but once out! Urgh! If you`re wondering about the blue rope? Lead rein for Emily`s horse, and a spare length for ………well whatever!
A really good ride, everyone enjoyed the day, and although cold it was a wonderland!
There was one faller, poor Sheena! Patrick lost his footing on ice, slipped over onto his right side and threw Sheena down an embankment! No one injured. Horse was fine and able to continue! Which just goes to show, you never no whats round the corner. But if we dont take a risk now and again? We got back in good time, hit the sandwiches and Tea, then time for home.
Good for you guys! I haven't been much into adventuring lately, so I'm glad some of you are.
ReplyDeleteCheers Susan, it does take some motivation to get off the sofa and ride in snow!!
ReplyDeleteWe must be doing a weather swap-it has been very mild here in the high country of Wyoming. I have been out hiking and enjoying the great weather. But we will need some snow soon-pasture grass looks much too dry.
ReplyDeleteWe thought that back in March last year!
DeleteOh my, you guys are very much braver than I!!! I'm a winter wimp with riding big time!
ReplyDeleteIf we dont ride while its dry, we dont ride, there has been too much rain!
DeleteBrr, thats so cold!
ReplyDeleteI feel like a beast for trekking out to the barn in our 30 - 40 degree weather at night after work when most people don't due to the cold. But thats like way colder!
It does look a bit gloomy and cold....but that Emily looks like she died and went to riding heaven....that is one happy little girl.
ReplyDeleteYes her Mum said she looked a Happy Bunny!
DeletePS. I remember those days....longgggggggg longggggggggg ago:)
ReplyDeleteNot that long ago?
DeleteEmily looks VERY happy despite the weather, and she has a nice pony!
ReplyDeleteShe has, a 18 year old Mare.

DeleteLooks like fun...two hours would be plenty in the cold...dreaming of something to warm the soul when you returned!
ReplyDeleteI loved to ride... did for the first 16 years of my life... it'd probably kill me now!
