The Weatherman Got It Right! (For Once!)

An early 8am start saw the three of us off to ride Galloway Forest, to find the elusive Loch Fleet!  Never seen it myself, know where it is on the map, but hey lets go see it!  We arrived at Loch Stroan for 9.45am, once tacked up we set off on a not to shabby 12 mile ride.

This was the view across Loch Stroan that greeted us as we rode away from the Car park. Outstanding, is it not?  The weather as you can see was perfect, cold but glorious! From here it was a simple ride gradually rising in height.

Fiona in the back of the shot, Sheena and the ears of Gracie! lol! Thats all we ever see of her! But thats put right later on!  The riding was good, forest tracks mainly, that is until we started the final climb up to Loch Fleet, a small Loch, surrounded by hills, and Forest.

There were some small patches of snow left from earlier on this month, but that was it. The picture doesnt do the climb justice, it was long and the horses really worked hard.

This shot shows the river, that runs out of Loch Fleet down towards the Coastal Village of Gatehouse of Fleet! You`ve guessed it, the river is the Water of Fleet!

The wind here was very cold, and with the horses quite sweaty, we only stayed a few minutes. But what a great place! But no matter how hard to get too a place is, there is always a certain type of people who have been there before you! Look closely at this picture!

Right of center? yeah! The Fly tippers have been!  Anyway it was still a great place.

Sheena and “Patrick” explore the old Fishing Pier.

And the one who took me there? Why the Grey Witch of course! She`s really starting to get pale this year, and extremely hairy too!

God love her! You can walk away from her, leave her where you want, and she just stays.

“You talkin` ta me?” ………….Ears like a Mule, doesnt miss a trick! So from here it was a haul back down the hills and a well earned feed for us, and the horses. It was a bright sunny, cold wonderful day!

  2. What a great Valentine's Day present!

Was that trash floating on the waters of the loch? Just like here, I'm afraid. What a great place to ride.

    1. No Mary Ann, it was on the waters edge, left no doubt by some thoughtless Oik!

    1. I just dont know, but there it was, and to be honest, I get the impression it was some one local, as all the rubbish seemed to be from someones old kitchen, so maybe a cottage nearby.

    1. Its true, fly tipping is really a problem, since the taxes on rubbish, and going "Green", its so expensive to get rid of stuff now.
