So it had to happen, we have been free from injuries for some time, but today was to that day!
Gracie has cleaved the rear of her front left fetlock, down to the Coronet band. That chunk is whats needing to be cut off. the vet has been and done it, antibiotics, and a thorough check of the leg, has given her the all clear for any other injuries.
Ouch! Hope she recovers well . . .
ReplyDeleteThanks, she is a pretty quick healer.
DeleteOuch! I hope she is okay and heals up quick. Do you know what happened?
ReplyDeleteNot sure, but the cut is from top downwards, so she must have pulled her foot back against something, I spent the evening looking for possible objects, but fields as you know are big places!! Nothing so far. I suspect a wire fence.
DeleteOuch, that looks pretty painful. Give her a hug from Camryn & I
ReplyDeleteWill do!
DeleteOuch! I hope she heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteCheers, she normally does, but this is deeper than I have seen before.
DeleteYes, it seems she will be out of action for some weeks.
ReplyDeleteNasty! Hope she's missed the actual coronet band and heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise, it has "just" missed the Coronet band! The vet cut most of the loose flesh away last night. But couldnt remove the remaining inch, due to the cut going into the top of the band. As you will know too many blood vessels in that area, plus if she had, the hoof wall would have been lost on that piece. However, the antibiotics will help, plus she was up to date with Tetanus, etc. So I also put Flamazole cream onto the wound, that helps keep the wound from cracking after the granulation takes place. She was fine this morning, limping a bit, in sympathy, or for sympathy! I couldnt decide!! But she seems ok just now!
DeleteOuch. Hope she's soon recovered.
ReplyDeleteSo do I! Vet says about 6-8 weeks.
DeleteSometimes it just isn't a complete day if you haven't had the pleasure of paying a vet bill. Hope she heals up easily!
ReplyDeleteHow true!!!!!Lol!............I`ve been vet free since last August, still, she needed some TLC. Yea me too, hopefully by the time I get back from the trip to Montana, she will be fine.
DeleteOh, no... why does she look purple, is it an antiseptic wash?
ReplyDeleteI have the vet coming next week... can't wait to pay that one!
No, its the light! But thats the wound before washing, after it was cleaned and smothered in Flamazole.
DeleteOh dear... hope she heals ok, why do these things always happen when the weather improves enough to ride?
ReplyDeleteBecause fate has it in for us!!
DeleteWow, That Is Nasty. Gracie Girl, What Did You Find To Get Tangled With!?
ReplyDeleteGosh, I'm Know It's Been Since Weeks Since This Initial Wound....Sure Hope She Is Appreciating Her catered Vacation!!!
