Life in the Freezer.

This week has been a nightmare. Its been 3 months since Gracie`s injury. It had`nt healed, save for a granulation that kept on breaking open. So she has`nt been ridden but once, and that was very lightly. The flies have been a real issue this summer, although we have had a wonderful heat wave, the Cleggs have been awful! Millions of the big buggers! Horrible black shiny looking flies, suck the blood of most any animal, even humans, and after they have bitten, the swelling is horrendous!

I have been covering myself in “jungle formula” repellent, works, until the sweat washes it off! Still must`nt grumble.  But the main problem this week was the Freezer!  It lives outside in a large shed. Dry and comfortable, it has worked away for years quietly and efficiently. Then two days ago, it decided to call it a day. It never bothered to let us know, just fell silent and began to defrost.  If it had`nt been for my need to use a specific tool to clean the chainsaw? I would never have noticed the freezers demise.  I had the tool in my hand, and was about to leave the shed, when I became aware of the silence. No humming sound, no gentle throb of the motor. So I took a querulous look to see. To my dismay, there were no lights, not one indicator light showing.

“PANIC!”……………….Check electric? All there, check pugs, all ok, …..OMG! Lift lid of freezer? …………..There inside was the gradual defrosting food, months of supplies, all going to waste fast!…………….Then began the frantic dash with bags of semi frozen food to friends houses, we managed to save quite a bit, but there are a few we could `nt. So last night we cooked and ate enough party food for a lifetime!!!………….I felt pretty full!  One can only eat so much ice cream, chocolate  cake and Gateaux!     Never mind. Our new freezer is  arriving on Tuesday.  I trawled the local stores, but no one stocked such a large freezer! Finally got one on line, couriered down to us.  Now is there anything else that is going to happen?

  1. Oh no! Hate weeks like these.... you poor thing! Let's hope this weekend and week ahead are much improved for you.

Might not be useful but honey works a treat on flesh wounds that want to granulate, wrapped on to the wound with something absorbent - pieces of nappy work great. I can't rate it highly enough. Good luck with getting the wound under control :-)

    1. Yeah, honey is good for non healing wound in humans too! But thanks for that info, just as an aside, there looks like some improvement today, no wet wound!

  5. Oh no! No ice to put on the insect bites to cool them - or in drinks to take your mind off them.

  6. Yuck, I hate flies!!! Our biting flies have gone down but houseflies by the thousands now. Poor Gracie, hoping for a quick (er) healing for her so you can get riding her again, and that freezer, seems like a bad week there for you.
