What more can be said? The deluge of heaven is upon us. The precipitation is sent to annoy us, the farmers love it, the public sometimes long for it, but I unfortunately am heartily sick of it!
It soaks the rider, no matter what you try and cover yourself with, be it, a new breathable material or a bog standard rubber Mac! the water will find egress, somewhere, the slow percolation of moisture. Maybe it trickles down your neck, and down your back. perhaps when you raise an arm, the rush of water, cold and insistant, as it careens along and down the upright arm, hitting the elbow and onto the armpit! Perfectly awful.
My riding today was curtailed by the horrible drizzle that started the day. From there it escalated into a full on downpour. I`m back home now, soaked, and not looking forward to the tack cleaning that I will have to do, after the stuff has been dried! Hey ho!
Around here we call that kind of weather a "frog strangler."
ReplyDeleteOkay, only a few of our more colorful people say that. But it provides the perfect visual, don't you think?
"A frog strangler!" ....I love that saying! i`m goona keep that, and use it when out with someone else!
ReplyDeleteIt does provide an acurrate and concise picture of the situation.
Great post. As a kid on the farm, I liked rainy days because it meant no work - not just for the reasons you so eloquently describe. The 2 summer jobs were haying and irrigating. You can't hay in the rain (ergo, the saying "make hay while the sun shines"), and irrigation is superfluous.
ReplyDeleteThats true Ron, unfortunately my next door neighbour didnt! he`s had to large bale all his hay as haylage!
ReplyDeleteRain? I think I remember that stuff... ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's a good reason to upgrade to biothane tack. The only leather I have left to clean is the seat of my saddle!
Funder!.....What? Biothane? Never!.....You have cut me to the quick, Leather......the smell of freshly cleaned leather, in the morning! Dont ya just love it?
ReplyDeleteI`m a confirmed leather person, sorry, tried this artificial stuff once, didnt get on.
As an aside, I mean I like to ride in leather, No! Thats not right!
ReplyDeleteI mean the tack should be leather, yes thats right! Phewww! Dont want anyone getting the wrong impression.
Lol! I love leather too, and I will switch back as soon as I find free labor to clean it for me.
ReplyDeleteSo get some biothane JUST for the rainy days. Oh, wait, it rains a lot there, dosent it? ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe are in the middle of the nasty Texas summer time heat. Triple digits, and a bit of humidity. I'm ready for some more rain to help the hay fields, and to maybe cool things down a little
We would kill for triple digit heat!!!!!!!!!!!....
ReplyDeleteI am sick to death of this rain, wind and cloud!
Last year we had the same winter came in the July, and didnt go `till April!
Looks like being the same again..
We had a little rain this morning, but not much. Dare I say we need some? Be careful what I wish for...
ReplyDeleteBeen meaning to ask. Are you in Yorkshire by chance?
ReplyDeleteHi Tammy, Hi Ron, No I`m not in Yorkshire, a little farther North than that! I`m in SW Scotland, although English, and have been adopted, so to speak!
ReplyDeleteyes Tammy, I believe wishing can sometimes give you what you want? But not as you want it!
Thanks for dropping by my blog. I'm a bit further up country than you - the Highlands. Love your cover photo.
ReplyDeleteYep, water water everywhere. It all began with the hosepipe ban... and then Saint Swithin's day... and me being stupid enough to think I'd need my shorts again this summer.
ReplyDeleteRough country. I like the looks of it.
ReplyDeleteHey Sweetie!
ReplyDeleteWell I know we don't live anywhere close but we've been in the same situation...rain everyday.
But it's our hurricane season so the rain is normal for us.
Sorry to hear you're up to your ears in it....I love the rain...
Hawk
Oh Cheyenne, been followin the WRONG blog....missed so much, but am enjoying the "catch up read"! Will put THIS BLOG on my blogroll...won't be missin' another footfall! KK w Wa mare
ReplyDeleteI LOVE*YOUR*COUNTRYSIDE!!! :-))
Thank you, the other blog is just startin` out, tryin` to seperate the slightly more extreme stuff from the all round ridin`. But thanks again, and lovely to have you on the blog!
ReplyDeleteWe could use a little rain around here in the northeast U.S. but I wouldn't want anything like you've got. That's just miserable for everyone. I hate it when the tack gets moldy, we use a dehumidifier sometimes in the tack room and it helps a bit. Here's hoping for some bright, sunny, hot day for you soon.
ReplyDeleteGMH?....Thanks for dropping by!.. Its been the same again today! Only a bit worse, wall to wall water, thunderstorms and the usual overflowing roof drains!
ReplyDeleteYou`re right about the de-humidifiers, but I sat down today and cleaned all the leather work. Smells good, but for how long!
This weather really stinks!
I didn't know you all got rain like that there, Cheyenne. Honestly, it sounds a lot like here in North Florida.
ReplyDeleteHi Jonny D! Rain? We`ve seen nothing like this for years, then the last two years, it "chucks it down" like a demented hose-pipe!
