Charlie.

Charlie, above, was bought in October. He was a bit "ribby" then,  more so now. So here`s the plan and the reasons behind it!
I had an e-mail circulated from one of our horsey forums here in the UK. Its a warning re the sudden increase of Liver Fluke in Cattle and Sheep. Mainly due to the mild winter and incessant rain!  Also a further note re encysted Red worms. Although Fluke is very rare  in horses, where there might be an increase in Fluke, the advice is to dose all horses. Funnily enough we have our horses on a sheep farm!

So tomorrow, I`m off to the vets, for some wormer`s!  There isn`t a licensed  Fluke  dosage for horses in this country, so I hope my vet will  let me have a one for Cattle.
He is eating well, but he seems slow and not as energetic as he was, but we`ll see after tomorrow.

ps. Another pic loaded! (after about ten tries!)

  1. I have never heard of Liver Fluke...do we have that here? I hope he's feeling better soon. Like the new header...blogger won't let me put up a new one says I have uploaded all the pics I am allowed...now what?

  2. Good luck with Charlie and that liver fluke thing. I've never heard of it but we don't ever get incessant rain -- more like incessant drought. I had trouble with the new blogger until I updated my browser. It doesn't seem to work at all with older browser versions.

  3. Janice, try loading a Picasa Album, then download from your blog to that, or, any new pics you have, load onto the computer and then into the Picasa. Then when you need them load from that? Any help?

Annette, thanks, sorry about the drought! I think I may have it sorted!!!!!!

  4. My friend has just lost two cows to possible Liver Fluke. Didn't realise it could affect horses.

  6. Never heard of liver fluke. Poor little Charlie, hope he picks up some weight after the deworming.

  7. Hi Shirley, several farmers here have reportedly had cattle die, due to fluke. its a grass born thing. Once injested, hatches out and makes its way to the liver, burrows in and makes the liver like Swiss cheese!
