A Trawl Through Blog-land!

It started out of sheer boredom, well, I meant that I was bored, and I let the fingers do the walking.  Much to my surprise, most others in horse world are relatively quiet.  Must be the time of year, and the recent weather we`ve been having.  Our place was flooded again last night. Only a few inches, but enough to piss me off again. The insurers are gonna love me! probably refuse to cover me for flood.  Anyway, blog land seems quite, then I went onto more, shall we say? Effusive blogs, blogs by the young? The immediacy of modern life blogs. I was truly amazed at what the youngsters of our modern age are really posting about and what they post as pictures!

There is no shame there!  Some are really good, genius in fact, but I have to say, I was disappointed at a lot. Is it me? Or are there a lot of crack pots out there?  I often wonder, what with Facebook et al, what these young people will say in the years to come, when they realise just how much they have jeopardised there own future, by what they have posted………..There are some really personal things there!  I was shocked! And I`m not easily shocked.

I know this isnt a horsey post, but hey!  I feel really sad, saddened by what I have read and seen,  Its like another world out there, but then perhaps its me out of touch, and being left behind? …………..But then, I`m not sure I want to be a part of that world.

But, and I must be honest, I found some exciting blogs and posts, very upbeat stuff, energetic and real, as they say!  …..Lol.   In this rush to say and show, all about your life, are`nt we giving something of ourselves, that maybe we shouldnt?

Do the next generation see things totally at odds with ours? Or is it the future, bare all to the world, and to hell with the consequences?  ……………..No, I think I`ll keep my own secrets and life, well most of it, to myself.  I will share some, but not all, and I think there is a balance to be struck, but not all see it.

Sorry if this is boring, but I felt the need to say something.  Especially since there have been several persons over here, that have lost jobs because of what they have posted on websites!

  1. I've seen plenty of blog posts, facebook entries etc that I imagine people might later regret making ... but will they? Perhaps the people who don't fear how they'll feel in the future about present actions are not the people who'll look back with regret about what others may consider to be mistakes.

  2. Not a blog but human has been watching a program on tv called unsafe sex in the city. It's a documentry about a sexual health clinic in Manchester I think. Now she is no prude and of course it is made for tv entertainment but she was shocked and horrified at what she saw. Like you she wondered if she were really out of touch with the world of today.
Wonder if her grandparents felt the same when the 60's hit?

  3. Following fashion in the 60s and 70s, it was ridiculous clothes and long hair--which (except for family photos) you can remedy. We can be grateful that as long as our other excesses were not transcribed into the newspapers or police records somewhere, they are safely forgotten in the mists of time. Kids today might as well be carving them into stone. More indelible than their tattoos.

  4. I am continually horrified by what a family member posts on her Facebook page... not pictures of herself, but re-posts from other people that are outlandish! I want to pull her aside and tell her "STOP!". I'm trying to find a way to be diplomatic about it.

    1. Its a tricky thing, they want there freedom, we want to give them years of advice, from long and sometimes bitter experience. But unfortunately they dont always want to listen. .....but were`nt we the same?

  6. I always wonder at the amount of personal information people post, particularly on Facebook. I remember reading somewhere about a guy who was using personal information from his "friends" Facebook pages to hack their bank accounts. Some kind of friend!

I figure I must be out of touch with the world today, but that's fine by me. From what I see it's not a world I want to be in touch with!

    1. Being careful, isnt being out of touch, we understand the value of privacy, I tend to think the youth of today maybe losing innocence the hard way.

  7. From what I see on Facebook even from the younger ones in my family, I am sure they don't consider the consequences of their internet indiscretions. They probably don't think about how the info in cyberspace is retrievable even years later. I'm pretty careful what I put out there.

    1. Your right Shirley, in essence we dont know each other, except by the blogs, but, there is a certain trust, that precludes us asking impertinent questions, and from answering the prying ones. Do we have a more acute sense of future problems? Or is it the young tend to live for the now?

  8. I'm sorry to hear that the rain is still insisting on falling in your neck of the woods ....we have just had the most stunning week of sun, clear skies and no wind ....all too good to be true.
your trawl through blog land sounds interesting ....and yes I think so many of our secrets are best kept to ourselves. I like the ramble of horse blogs - safe and all about wonderful people and animals

  9. I too think that people put too much out there. I always figure if I dont mind if my parent or my sisters kids (I dont have any of my own) can see it and I dont mind i feel OK putting it out there, otherwise keep it to yourself and close friends in person.
