Farrier Day!

What a miserable wet day it was yesterday!  Flooding all over the country, flood warnings out, and  high winds.  I know its the same story!   But hang on a minute, it was actually for me and the horses, a good day!

I would have thought that the horses shoes would have been lost with all the mud, but no, all were intact!

The barn we are in was mostly dry,  So after a good mug of Coffee, and a brief chat, it was off to work, Gracie, Sunny, Charley, Beauty, Polo and Ella, the Clydesdale to shoe! ( I always cry  at the cost!  Its £60 pounds per horse, except Ella, which can vary, but about £75 pounds)

Thats young Ninian doing the business. Excellent Farrier.

Polo`s New Shoe`s.

Gracie.

Not the best of videos, but I`ll get there! I wouldnt care, but I have those Movie maker apps on here, but never use them.

Its always good to see the Farrier, lots of crack, and a chat about who`s doing what etc. Bit of a gossip shop really, but nothing untoward! Mainly horses, buying, selling. You also get to find out if others are having similar issues, and if they have a different way of dealing with things.

  1. The farriers always have the good gossip :) They visit all the barns and know whats up! Shy's farrier comes today for a trim. I am interested in what he has to say about her ever changing hooves.

  2. I do enjoy when the farrier comes, he is from a different area than us, but still in our community, so I get to hear all thats going on over his way and he goes home with whats going on my way.

  3. Farriers DO have the best gossip, and the best news. Yours costs quite a bit more than ours, but we did not shoe.

  4. I feel put out, my trimmer doesn't gossip at all! We just talk about our respective horses and/or dogs.
Cool video, ecspecially with all the steam.

  5. My husband complains at the price of my shoes - I'm going to tell him about your bill so he sees what a bargain my footwear is.

    1. Hi Patsy, yes it was an expensive day! Clydesdale shoes are hand made to order, but that horse doesnt belong to me!

  6. I guess I'd be talking to myself on farrier day- not that I'm a farrier, but I do my own trimming. Do you keep any of your horses barefoot?

    1. I dont, I dont believe that we here, have the climate or the riding surfaces to enable consistent all year round riding. We have a lot of Tarmac roads, tons of forest tracks that are covered with hard sharp rock. So for me, shoes are the only option. I could try boots? And I have a pair or two!!!Lol. But only use them when a shoe is lost. It would be good to go barefoot, as there are a few here that do, I`m still on the fence about it though.
